In 2000, it was estimated that 7m adults in England (roughly one in five) had the reading, writing and maths skills expected of an 11-year-old. The Government pledged to improve this through marketing the availability of free adult basic skills courses. Our campaign personified the feelings of fear and frustration that the audience encounter when faced with a basic skills task, in the form of the Gremlin.
